According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all land.In 2011 the Village of Lewellen is host to Restaurants, Lodge, Motel, Lumber Yard, Convenience store.The Lewellen Community Hospital opened its doors in 1943. In the mid 1970's it became The Gander Inn Motel. In 2009 the old hospital was remodeled into Bed and Breakfast featuring a Restaurant, Lodge, Cottage and Motel rooms and operating under the name of The Gander Inn Motel-Bed & Breakfast

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 282 people, 137 households, and 69 families residing in the village. The population density was 789.5 people per square mile (302.4/km²). There were 172 housing units at an average density of 481.5 per square mile (184.5/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 93.97% White, 1.06% African American, 0.71% Native American, 1.06% Asian, 1.06% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.77% of the population.

There were 137 households out of which 14.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.4% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 49.6% were non-families. 44.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 27.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.86 and the average family size was 2.55.

In the village the population was spread out with 14.5% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 16.7% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 37.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 57 years. For every 100 females there were 79.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 75.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $19,191, and the median income for a family was $30,417. Males had a median income of $18,000 versus $15,625 for females. The per capita income for the village was $13,124. About 15.9% of families and 20.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 34.2% of those under the age of eighteen and 15.4% of those sixty five or over.
